 Alison Xamon

Alison Xamon

Alison Xamon has been an environmental and social justice campaigner for over two decades.  Qualified in law, Alison now works for a labour law firm and spends her days representing and advocating for the rights of workers and the disadvantaged.  Prior to taking up law Alison worked for many years in the union movement as an organiser and Industrial Officer in both the teachers and the nurses unions.

Alison is passionate about securing a fair go for families and improving our ailing public health and education sectors.  As a working mother of three Alison knows first hand the pressures of meeting a mortgage, the impact of increased petrol, food and energy costs and the concerns for the future of our children.

Alison has an impressive capacity for work and in addition to her work and family is also active in the Community Legal Sector, sitting on the Boards of the Environmental Defender’s Office, the Employment Law Centre and the Women’s Law Centre.  She is also currently the National Convenor of the Australian Greens.

Over the years Alison has developed an extensive background of campaigning on a broad range of issues, including climate change, forest preservation and anti-nuclear issues.  She has also championed campaigns upholding human rights in support of women, children, Indigenous Australians, refugees and gay and lesbian issues.  She has been active in the peace movement and on issues of International solidarity, in particular East Timor.  Whilst a student at Murdoch University Alison was also elected Guild President and has long campaigned around higher education issues.

Prior to her involvement in the union movement Alison was trained in and worked in the area of non-formal education with primary school aged children, also dealing with children at risk, giving her first hand insight into the challenges facing the community sector and those dealing with our most vulnerable citizens.

Alison grew up in the East Metropolitan region and still lives there.  She is passionate about creating a better future for the people of the East Metropolitan region and a sustainable Western Australia.  She has a broad range of life experiences and is a much needed voice in State Parliament.
