Bassendean - Jennie Carter

Jennie CarterJennie Carter was a founding member of the Greens WA and supporter of the earlier Green Alliance and Nuclear Disarmament Party. She is an historian, archivist and librarian and recently retired as Director of the JS Battye Library of West Australian History. Jennie is the author of Bassendean: a social history 1829 – 1979 as well as many articles and papers on Western Australian and Indigenous history over the years. |
Inspired by her research as well as her involvement in the Bassendean Preservation Group which was set up to protect the river environment, Jennie ran for and was elected to the Bassendean Town Council in 1987, eventually serving as Deputy Mayor.
Jennie and her husband, Bevan, have five grown children and four grandchildren and run their own research and publication business. She is currently working on a history of the Armadale district.
