The Greens have urged the Government to accept an amendment to its Food Bill, currently before the Upper House, that would move WA closer to a ban on junk food advertising.
"We recognise that the best result would be an Australia-wide ban on junk food advertising to children," said Greens MLC Giz Watson.
"However, if the federal government doesn't introduce a ban there should be action at a State level."
The Greens amendment would empower the making of regulations to regulate or prohibit junk food advertising, making it easier for junk food laws to be introduced in the future.
The South Australian government has already said that it will impose a ban on junk food advertising to children if the Federal Government doesn't act.
