The Greens (WA) believe that:
- the community service sector plays a vital role in sustaining our economy, and protecting and supporting many of our most vulnerable and disadvantaged community members
- a well-funded community service sector is crucial to the provision of high quality community services and to addressing Western Australia’s pay equity gap
- not-for-profit and advocacy groups must be able to provide an independent voice in public debate and decision making without fear of repercussion or loss of funding
- competitive tendering diminishes the collaborative strength of the not-for-profit sector
Aims
The Greens (WA) want:
- well-funded community services to strengthen social infrastructure
- adequate and secure funding for not-for-profit welfare and advocacy organisations
Measures
The Greens (WA) will initiate and support legislation and actions that:
- support improved and longer-term funding for community services, including improved service provision in regional and remote communities
- support a well resourced not-for-profit sector that provides direct advice to government on social services
- close the gender pay gap in the community services sector (See The Greens (WA) Women policy)
