Bold major reform is needed to energise Willagee - Greens Candidate Hsien Harper

WA’s aging energy grid is increasing pressure on household budgets while increasing the risk of serious supply disruptions.

“This issue requires critical action. The failure to maintain and upgrade the energy system by the past four governments has ensured this increasing burden.

“This Government should not be throwing dollar after dollar into major fossil-fired power stations. We are seeing an increasing list of historic half measures. Attempts at long term viable solutions have been expensive half thought out agreements.

“Presently the government makes profits off the sale of electricity, thereby promoting usage. We should be encouraging reduced use; not through half measures but through smart forward planning

“Decentralising the electricity grid to regional renewable energy projects will decrease the reliance on these big polluters. This has the enormous advantage of reduced costs in supply and maintenance; not to mention the increased employment opportunities with the building and maintenance involved in regional renewable energy projects.

“We should be the city of the future. Our renewable energy options in WA are enormous. Right now we need to move away from the aging, centralised, fossil-driven industry and into reliable, regional, renewable projects.”

Hsien will be at Rocking for a Green Revolution in Willagee, Friday 20th November Hamilton Hill Tavern, doors open at 7:30pm
